News Alert: Tackling Knowledge Asymmetry through Storytelling, eBASE Africa Launches ‘The Comings of the Two Rivers’ with JBI’s Brighter Future Grant
Jan 1st 1970
eBASE Africa is thrilled to announce the launch of a new project titled The Comings of the Two Rivers: Increasing Access to Research Evidence through Storytelling for a Brighter Future, funded by the Brighter Future Grant from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI).
Running from July, 2025 to September, 2027 this 24-month intervention aims to address a persistent challenge in the global evidence ecosystem: knowledge asymmetry. Despite decades of efforts by organizations like JBI, Cochrane, and Campbell to synthesize and share research findings, often free of charge in low- and middle-income countries, scientific evidence remains largely inaccessible to communities due to technical language, paywalls, language barriers, and low literacy rates.
This project strengthens Tori Dey, our evidence-based storytelling technique, to ensure that knowledge is not just produced but also understood, trusted, and used by the people it’s meant to help.
Over the coming months, the project will:
· Train 25 new reviewers and 25 storytellers across multiple countries and languages;
· Co-create community-centered stories grounded in JBI systematic reviews;
· Develop the Evidence to Stories (EtS) Framework to expand the rigor of Tori Dey;
· Improve knowledge symmetry between clinicians and patients, enhance leadership in evidence use, and reduce research waste.
With activities spanning Cameroon, Brazil, Thailand, and Kenya, this collaborative effort reaffirms our commitment to using storytelling as a tool for knowledge translation, empowerment, and health equity. We are proud to work alongside JBIC partners and global stakeholders in reimagining how evidence can truly serve the people it’s meant to help.
The Comings of the Two Rivers: Increasing Access to Research Evidence through Storytelling for a Brighter Future is part of our broader mission to decolonize evidence communication and ensure that evidence doesn't just sit in journals, but drives informed decision-making at the community level.
Stay connected with us as we share insights, milestones, and community stories throughout the journey.
