Breaking Language Barriers: Strengthening Systematic Review Skills in Francophone Africa
In February 2026, eBASE Africa has strengthened access to evidence synthesis training by delivering the JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program in English and French for 26 researchers and health professionals from six African countries: Cameroon, Nigeria, Mali, Benin, Madagascar, and Senegal.
For the first time, the training materials were translated into French, helping address language barriers that can limit participation in research and evidence-based healthcare. Participants’ average assessment scores increased by 30.4%, demonstrating significant learning gains during the programme.
Beyond strengthening knowledge of systematic review methods, the training fostered regional networking and opportunities for future research collaboration. eBASE Africa plans to support participants through mentorship, a community of practice, and expanded training opportunities to strengthen evidence synthesis capacity across Francophone Africa.
