About the Training
eBASE Africa, under the Brighter Future Grants project, invites applications for a blended training program in conducting systematic reviews using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and tools. This program builds participants’ capacity to design, appraise, and synthesize evidence using JBI methods and software, and to produce a review protocol ready for registration and implementation.
Format & Dates
Mode: Blended (2 weeks online + 5 days in person)
Online Phase: 25 November – 6 December 2025
(Interactive online sessions and independent learning)
In-Person Phase: 8 – 12 December 2025
(Venue: Yaoundé, Cameroon)
Cohort Size: 25 participants
Module 1 – Introduction to Evidence-Based Healthcare & Systematic Reviews
Foundations of evidence-based healthcare, formulating questions, search strategy development, and protocol design.
Module 2 – Systematic Review of Quantitative Evidence
Study designs, data extraction, effect measures, and fundamentals of meta-analysis.
Module 3 – Systematic Review of Qualitative, Text & Narrative Evidence
Appraisal and synthesis of qualitative and text-based evidence, integrating diverse data.
Module 1 is a prerequisite for Modules 2 and 3.
Tools & Resources
JBI SUMARI: Participants will be trained on using this web-based software for managing systematic reviews—covering protocol development, appraisal, data extraction, and synthesis.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Formulate focused review questions.
- Develop comprehensive and reproducible search strategies.
- Critically appraise and synthesize evidence following JBI standards.
- Produce a high-quality systematic review protocol ready for registration and execution.
Who Should Apply
Researchers, clinicians, policymakers, students, and professionals involved in evidence-based practice who intend to conduct or supervise systematic reviews in health or social sciences. Prior research experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Assessment & Certification
Participants completing all components will receive an eBASE Africa Certificate of Completion (aligned to JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training standards).
Selected trainees may proceed to conduct reviews published in the JBI Evidence Synthesis Journal as part of the Brighter Future initiative.

Reliable internet connection for online sessions.
Laptop for practical components.
Commitment to attend all sessions.
Fees & Support
Tuition: Fully funded under the Brighter Future Grants.
Coverage: Instruction, materials, and in-person workshop logistics.
Participants cover: Travel and accommodation (limited subsidies may be available).

Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated interest in conducting a systematic review.
- Clear link between the applicant’s role and evidence synthesis.
- Commitment to both online and in-person participation.
